The Vernon Building Society’s head office has been used as a set for the Christmas special of The League of Gentlemen.

Actors Mark Gatiss and Steve Pemberton took part in the filming for Return to Royston Vasey at the branch on St Petersgate in Stockport town centre.

Nate Harwood, Marketing Coordinator at the Vernon said: “The scene filmed at the Vernon was about one of the characters presenting a wacky business proposal to a bank manager -you’ll have to tune in next week to see what happens, but it ends in true Royston Vasey style.”

The new shows reunite Gatiss, Pemberton, Reece Shearsmith and Jeremy Dyson as the residents of fictional Royston Vasey.

Pemberton told the BBC: “All the episodes of The League of Gentlemen had great moments, and what we’ve tried to do in these specials is give as many characters those special great moments over three episodes as possible.”

And the BBC adds: “Familiar faces return to Royston Vasey, settling old scores and digging up some old friends - with more bad blood than an abattoir with septicaemia.

“Once again, the three performing members of the League - Reece Shearsmith, Steve Pemberton and Mark Gatiss - will be playing a veritable host of bizarre and darkly comic characters inhabiting the fictional Northern town of Royston Vasey, in scripts written by themselves and co-creator Jeremy Dyson.

“Royston Vasey is facing a threat more dire than anything it has faced before: dark rumours of boundary changes that could erase the town from the map forever.

“The fight to save Royston Vasey from administrative annihilation will come from unexpected and surprising directions, all of them local.”

The BBC fee has been donated to the Vernon Jubilee Fund, which supports local charity and community groups.

The original The League of Gentlemen ran from 1999 to 2002, set in the fictional town of Royston Vasey.
