Vernon Building Society’s £10,000 Jubilee Fund returns in 2016 in association with the Stockport Express. We will be again awarding funding to 20 good causes in the Stockport area with readers of the Express voting on how the money is shared. This year’s programme will mean that since its launch in 2012 the Jubilee Fund will have awarded over £50,000 to more than 70 local charity and community groups.

Over 3,850 votes were cast by Express readers in 2015, making each vote worth a meaningful £2.59 to the groups.  Rachel Glindon from Brinnington Community Art Group, which received 169 votes in last year’s awards said: “2015 was the first time our group had applied to the Jubilee Fund and the process was simple. We just put a few details about our group on the on-line application form and we were entered. Getting the news that we had been selected was amazing and the token collecting from Stockport Express was so easy, every token equalled funding, so the more we collected the more funds we got.”

Vernon Staff last year voted The Weekend Day Care Centre for Dementia Care to receive an additional £500 in a special Staff Award.

Our Chief Executive, Mike Hanson, said: “This year the Jubilee Fund will have provided over £50,000 to a large variety of causes in the local area which, from feedback we’ve had, really does make a difference.  We’re looking for groups that can demonstrate that they offer a lasting benefit to the Stockport community and we’d encourage any a local charity or community groups to apply.”

If you’re involved in a charity or community group which is locally based or benefits those in the area then you can apply to the Jubilee Fund by clicking here. As part of the application process groups can, if they wish, submit a 60 second video to support their application. Videos from shortlisted applicants will feature on the Stockport Express website in August. The closing date for applications is 27th June 2016.

A panel of judges will shortlist the applications with the 20 groups chosen entering into a public vote using tokens in the Stockport Express to determine how much funding each group will receive.  Funding will be allocated to groups according to the proportion of votes they have received of the total number of votes cast.
