We visited two of our 2018 Community Awards winners to see the impact that the funding has made to their organisations.
Since 2012, we have donated over £70,000 to community groups and charities local to the Stockport area. This year 14 finalists petitioned for votes in order to receive the most funding.
Stockport County Community Foundation received £850 towards their Mental Health Project which offers weekly coaching sessions and monthly football tournaments for those living with serious mental illness. The donation helped them to purchase equipment and cover their coaching and training costs. We presented them with a cheque at one of County's matches against Chester where we were able to meet some of the service users.
Our Marketing Manager Alex Deakin said 'It was great to see the mental health project in full swing at the match, with some of the people suffering from mental illness collecting donations around the stands on the day of the match'.
Signpost Stockport for Carers supports carers in the local area by providing them with advice and information as well as time to recharge from their taxing job. They were awarded £750 funding to host more of their wellbeing days which offer therapy and treatments to carers alongside refreshments in order to boost their morale and emotional wellbeing.
We attended one of their wellbeing events in Stockport's Alma Lodge and sold copies of our 2019 calendar featuring photographs of Stockport. All proceeds from the calendar sales will go to Stockport Signpost for Carers. Our Marketing Assistant Adam Pemberton said 'The Signpost wellbeing event offered us an amazing opportunity to view the funding we provided in action. Witnessing the carers receiving much needed respite was refreshing for me, especially as my mother is a carer.'
