Founded by TAV Sutton in Stockport:

"Our purpose was to provide facilities for savings and assistance for those seeking to buy a home in stockport and the surrounding districts"


 

1945

Supported local soldiers returning from WW2 in buying their home


 

1955

Becomes largest building society in Stockport


1968

Installed the Society's first computer, costing £6,290


 

1971

First local branch opens in Poynton


 

1977

New Head Office opens at St. Petersgate


 

1979-1981

Reddish & Hazel Grove branches open


1985

Bramhall branch opens


 

1995

Marple branch opens


 

2000

Vernon goes online with first website


 

2008

Supported Members through global financial crash


 

2012

Launch of Community Awards


 

2020

Supported mortgage Members with payment holidays during Coronavirus pandemic


2023

Invested in our high streets with full branch network refurbishment


2024

Launched Charitable Foundation with over £100,000 fund
