The Vernon were at the races this weekend, but just not just any race, the Bramhall Duck Race.
The annual Bramhall Duck Race is a day for fun, family, and feathers. This year was no different; competition was in the air as the ducks went beak to beak in a nail-biting race, with the money raised going to the Motor Neurone Disease Association in Manchester.
Our duck narrowly missed out on a podium finish, although we believe our fair Verona should've won on style alone. Sadly, however, it wasn't meant to be. It's a tough sport that doesn't reward beauty, so we'll have to start training in preparation for next year's race. But rest assured - Verona is in it to win it.
Jokes aside, it was great to be back out in the community raising money for a worthy cause. We're proud of where we're from, and it's always a pleasure seeing familiar faces. Stockport has been the home of the Vernon since our establishment in 1924, where we helped local savers and borrowers with their dreams. Although times have changed, our values haven't. Our main priority, now and always, is our community.
It's important that we give back to the local community that supports us, which is why we run charity initiatives like Community Stars, our way of giving back to local not-for-profits doing fantastic work in our community.
We'd also like to give a massive thank you to Poynton Brass Band, who supplied an excellent soundtrack for the day's festivities.
Bramhall Duck Race was a resounding success, and we can't wait for next year.
