For the second awarding of the year, we retook a colleague vote to decide which local not-for-profits would receive a share of £4,000:

Arts for Recovery in the Community (Arc) - £500

Chairman of Cricket (Stockport Cricket Club) - £100

A spokesperson for Reddish Men in Sheds said: "To be recognised and awarded funding helps to boost our morale as a group. The older population, especially those experiencing isolation, can feel 'unseen' in today's society and awards such as this go a long way to undoing that perception. We are incredibly grateful to the Vernon Building Society 'Community Stars Scheme' for supporting us and acknowledging the great work we do in our local community."

Winter Awardees

Continuing with our colleague votes to decide who is being awarded funds, we awarded our third set of Community Stars funding:

Heald Green Runners - 100

The CLUB Squash CIC - £100

South Reddish Park Crown Green Bowling Club - £100

Forward CIC - £100

Bramhall Together Trust - £150

Marbury Road Edible Garden - £200

Claytime Stockport - £200

Friends of Valley School PTA - £300

Knutsford and District Talking Newspaper - £300

Sands United Manchester - £500

FASD Greater Manchester - £650

A spokesperson from Forward CIC said: "Thank you so much to Vernon Building Society Community Stars for awarding us £100!! We have recently started doing crafting sessions at our Saturday morning coffee and discussion group "Spill The T" and they are one of the most popular activities we've done so far! We're all about connecting members of the LGBTQIA+ community in Stockport using the 5 Ways to Wellbeing and crafting covers 4 of them! We've also seen that while people are focused on an activity, it breaks down barriers and encourages open and honest discussions about issues that are important to us. With your generosity, we can purchase more materials to keep these sessions going."

Looking Towards 2025

As we head into the new year, we plan to keep Community Stars running alongside the new Vernon Charitable Foundation. Keep your eyes peeled for exciting announcements in the new year to hear about applications and what is coming next.
