23rd July 2024

A group of Vernon volunteers headed out to help Jump Space with the next phase of the refurbishment they are completing!

In our centenary year, we've committed ourselves to 100 days of volunteering for 100 years of Vernon Building Society, and we've recently completed more days by visiting Jump Space, a local organisation, to help with the next phase of their refurbishment.

About the day

The day involved our volunteers taking part in a "big clear out" of their play area, the next phase of the refurbishment of their centre. Last year, a group of our colleagues went over to help them decorate their cafe, and now the focus was on clearing out the ground floor play area in preparation for their upgraded soft play!

Our volunteers helped by moving large play mats into a skip and clearing out the space on the floor, ready for their new equipment to arrive!

One of our volunteers said:

"I'm really pleased to have been able to assist with the clear out of the area to allow for renovations to take place and can see the positive impact this will have on the community."

About Jump Space

In a session at Jump Space, the participants work with coaches on the trampolines and are progressively taught a wide range of skills using many communication methods.

When they are not on the trampolines, they can choose between different activities: the slide, the swing, soft play, and the sensory room.

Jump Space's aims and objectives are to provide different opportunities to people with disabilities, “allowing them to enjoy physical recreation in a safe, accessible, and understanding environment”. They also offer facilities for sport and recreation for groups or individuals who may have been otherwise excluded or deterred from accessing other clubs and activities.

Our volunteers had a great day volunteering at Jump Space, helping with the next phase of their refurbishment! We are committed to completing our 100 days of volunteering in our 100th year, and we're looking forward to seeing what our colleagues get up to next!
