Some of our Vernon volunteers visited Marple Garden House to tidy and clear out the cafe in preparation for a photography exhibition!
During our centenary year, we've committed ourselves to 100 days of volunteering for 100 years of Vernon Building Society, and we've recently completed more days by visiting The Garden House Marple, a local organisation, to help tidy up and clear out the cafe.
The day involved our volunteers taking part in a clear-out and tidy-up of their cafe, ready for a photography exhibition the following day. The photography exhibition featured photographs taken by young people with autism following a workshop that was previously held at the site. The cafe is mainly outside, so they wanted to spruce it up in readiness to show off the wonderful work of the young people!
Our volunteers helped by cleaning the walls and windows, adding in new furniture, putting up the new furniture, and much more, ready for their exhibition!
One of our volunteers said:
"Great to be involved - volunteering to clean out the barn, getting it spick and span for the Photographic show. The sun shone and the animals were out enjoying the sunshine. It is always so lovely to learn how the charities work and very humbling to see how dependent they are on the support from the local community. Seeing the animals and working in the sunshine was definitely a bonus!"
The Garden House Marple is a registered charity and community farm in Marple which provides a calm place of well-being for families, individuals, groups, and organisations.
They home a range of animals including; Pigs, Alpacas, Rabbits, Goats, Shetland Ponies, Donkeys, and Guinea Pigs. Their sensory garden and riverside walk offer a tranquil space for everyone to enjoy nature which empowers individuals and the wider community through seeing the environment.
Our volunteers had a great day volunteering at Marple Garden House, helping to clear out their cafe ready for the exhibition! We are committed to completing our 100 days of volunteering in our 100th year, and we're looking forward to seeing what our colleagues get up to next!
